WildCats Fall in Layup 4 Lauren Game

FREDERICKSBURG, VA – The Randolph College women's basketball team lost in the first round of the Hyatt Place Tipoff Tournament on Friday night to the hosts, the University of Mary Washington, 73-32.  The game also served as the Layup 4 Lauren Game, honoring Lauren Hill and raising awareness and funds for the rare form of cancer that took her life last April.

The Eagles jumped out to an early lead, before Hope Randolph scored the first points of her career on a free throw.  She added a layup shortly after to cut the deficit.  UMW went on another run to extend the advantage, before Hope Randolph hit two from the charity stripe before the end of the period.  Five different 'Cats tallied in the second period, including three-point field goals from Abigail Bullins and Maura McMahon, but Mary Washington held onto the lead.

UMW continued to stretch the advantage following the intermission.  Despite nine second-half points from Rebecca Harvey, the 'Cats could not mount a comeback.

Harvey finished with a team-high and career-high 11 points.  Hope Randolph led the WildCats in rebounding, pulling down seven.  Sarah Listenbee scored a game-high 13 points in the win for the Eagles (2-0), who advance to the championship game to take on Meredith College.

Randolph (0-2) will play in the consolation game of the Hyatt Place Tipoff Tournament on Saturday.  The WildCats will play Lehman College at noon in the first game of the day.
