Lucky Seven Score in WildCats win over Hollins
HOLLINS, VA – There were seven different members of the Randolph College women's soccer team that scored, as the WildCats defeated Hollins University in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play on Friday. The 'Cats found the back of the net six times in the first half alone.
The WildCats opened up the game as the aggressor, as the forward tandem of Sam Hablas and Delaney Doyle each tallied in the first four minutes of the game, with Doyle finding Hablas with a pass from the left side. After HU held the 'Cats at bay for five minutes, Randolph added to their lead with two goals in three minutes. Doyle added another assist, this time finding Kayla Kishbaugh with a pass over the top of the defense. Then Kishbaugh sent a pass across the field and Alissa Gembach sent the ball into the back of the net.
The game settled down for the next 25 minutes, but the WildCats went back on the offensive shortly after. However with less than eight minutes remaining in the half, the Randolph attack forced Hollins into committing an own goal. Finally, three minutes before the whistle, Leah Hughes scored her first career goal to give the WildCats the 6-0 lead in the half.
After the intermission, there would be more firsts, as Quinn-Lynn Bates found the back of the net off a pass from Alex Uzdavinis. Bates, normally in goal, fired one at the left post to notch her first career tally. It was also the first point for Uzdavinis.
With less than eight minutes on the clock, Meghan Curtin found Megan Kruse streaking on the right side, and Kruse slotted her shot home for the 8-0 win.
The WildCats outshot HU 43-8 and earned six corner kicks while allowing none in the 90 minutes.
Audrey Haisley led Hollins (0-11 overall, 0-5 ODAC) with 15 saves in the game. Shelby Lutz started her first game in net, and recorded shutout, finishing with three saves in her first collegiate win.
Randolph (4-7-1, 2-3) returns home for a crucial ODAC clash on Wednesday night. The WildCats host Guilford College, who sit one place ahead of the 'Cats in the ODAC standings. A win for either team will go a long way to making the ODAC tournament. The game will also be a Cancer Awareness Game. For more information on the event and ways to donate, click this link.
