WildCats Fall to Yellow Jackets in ODAC Play

ASHLAND, VA – After the rain passed through Virginia, the Randolph College women's soccer team played its game against Randolph-Macon College on Thursday.  The Yellow Jackets won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup 3-0.

R-MC used little time to score its first goal of the afternoon.  At 1:19, Meghan O'Neal fired a shot in to give Randolph-Macon the 1-0 lead.  The Yellow Jackets added to that lead shortly after as the team earned three-straight corner kicks.  Randolph did a great job defending the first two, but the Yellow Jackets finally broke through on the third, doubling their lead at 7:48.

However, the 'Cats settled down, stopping several chances.  Quinn-Lynn Bates made four saves before the 25th minute, and another was blocked by the backline.  Then the WildCats went on the offensives, as Alissa Gembach had her shot saved soon after.

Randolph kept attacking, as Delaney Doyle's shot in the 30th went just wide.  Five minutes later, she was taken down, just outside the box setting up a free kick for Erin McClelland.  McClelland's shot sailed just over cross bar.  R-MC went back on the offensive, but the WildCats stymied any other opportunity.

The second half saw an abundance of shots for both teams, with them going wide of the woodwork.  Gembach and Devon Nowicki had back to back attempts sail just off the post.  Then Sam Hablas followed it with an attempt of her own, but it went high.  The two teams continued attacking, but in the 87th, the Yellow Jackets found the back of the net, to seal the 3-0 victory.

Bates made six stops in the loss for the WildCats.  Sam Tyler and O'Neal added the last two goals for Randolph-Macon (8-8 overall, 5-6 ODAC).

Randolph (5-11-1, 3-7) returns home on Saturday for the regular-season finale.  The WildCats will honor Ally Ramos and Courtney Collier before the game with Eastern Mennonite University at 1 p.m.
