Quirk's 13 Saves Not Enough for WildCats
WINCHESTER, VA – Stephanie Quirk stopped 13 shots, but the Randolph College women's soccer team fell to Shenandoah University 4-0 on Saturday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
The Hornets started the game very quickly, but Quirk was up to the challenge, stopping her first shot 16 seconds into the game. SU had the next two chances, but once again Quirk stepped up and on the other shot, a WildCat was there to force it out of bounds. Delaney Doyle then had her first opportunity of the evening, but it was saved by Shenandoah goalie Erip Septer.
SU regained the momentum shortly after and forced Quirk into another save at 14:25. Following a substitution, the Hornets took the lead as Alysha McCleaf found Kelsie Luddington for her first goal of the season.
Randolph had more opportunities the rest of the half, but the attempts by Maggie Croft, Doyle, and Patricia Garrett, were all stopped by Septer.
Shenandoah came out of the intermission as the aggressor, firing two shots and earning a corner in the first two minutes after the half. Quirk made another save, with the other going wide of goal. Then at 53:04, the Hornets broke through to go up 2-0. Shenandoah stayed on the offensive but the WildCats backline and Quirk continued to hold them out of the net, as Alissa Gembach made a defensive save along with three by Quirk. However, SU had a quick run of two goals in a four minute span, sealing the 4-0 victory.
Jennifer Nguyen and Danielle Burris added the final goals for Hornets (8-6 overall, 5-1 ODAC), with Rebecca Collimore assisting on both.
The WildCats (5-8-1, 3-4) finish their two-game road trip on Tuesday, traveling to Virginia Wesleyan College for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
