Box Score WINCHESTER, Va .-- Two familiar foes faced off this afternoon, with Shenandoah taking home a victory to level the season series between the Hornets and WildCats, 68-54.
Despite no field goals over the final 4:25 of the contest, Shenandoah hit 13 free throws late to seal a win.
A close game was to be expected, as not only have these teams played twice in 17 days this season, but five times since last January 18.
Sophomore Jacqueline Hockman opened the scoring this afternoon, but Shenandoah jumped out to a 19-12 lead early.
Next, senior Jensen Hoover hit a layup that keyed an 8-0 run, including a three from Abigail Bullins and a three point play from Hockman.
The teams exchanged baskets to close out the frame, with Hockman ending the session with another basket to put the WildCats up 35-30 at the break.
The first 9:08 of the second half was played within a three-point window, with the teams alternating scores, leaving Randolph up between two and five points for the entirety of that time.
A 6-0 run from Randolph put the team up eight with 9:15 to go, but the offense sputtered after that.
Shenandoah picked up the pace on both sides of the ball, closing strongly to come from behind, hitting free throws down the stretch to extend what was a narrow lead.
For Shenandoah, this breaks a losing skid, which included a 55-52 loss to the WildCats at the RAD Center form earlier this month.
In that contest, senior Allie Druffel blocked a game tying shot at the buzzer to possibly prevent overtime.
Randolph next welcomes Randolph-Macon to the RAD Center on Tuesday night, facing a Yellow Jacket team on top of the ODAC.
