Women's Basketball's Record Streak Ends at the Hands of Virginia Wesleyan

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- A historic span ended this afternoon at the RAD Center as Virginia Wesleyan got the best of Randolph in women's basketball action.

The visiting Marlins got off to a fast start in the 56-38 victory, stifling Randolph's offense.

After senior Chelsea Tyler put Randolph up early, VWC scored the next seven, taking the lead for good.

The Marlins locked down defensively to grow a lead at halftime of 40-16.

Randolph's defense turned it on in the second half, holding the guests to just 16 in the frame, but the offense couldn't sustain a run to get back into the game.

The team closed strongly, using a 14-3 run to end the game, but it was too little, too late for the WildCats.

The loss ends a program record win streak of eight for Randolph, as the team concluded the best 12 game span in program history at 11-1.

Sophomore Brie Holdren led the WildCats with nine points. First-year Alexis Calloway had the most rebounds in the game with seven.

The team is back in action on Tuesday as it travels to Lynchburg for a cross-town matchup at 7 p.m.
