Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. -- A first-year keeper played like an experienced veteran, cutting down angles and making a remarkable 20 saves, but Randolph fell to top-ranked Washington & Lee, 2-0, today.
Quinn-Lynn Bates stood tall in net, stopping the first 17 shots on goal that came her way through 71 minutes.
While her reactions to shots on goal were impressive, Bates played a huge role in cutting down opportunities by being assertive off of her line as well, knocking away crosses in front of her cage.
Her best play of the day may have been in the 56th minute off of a counter.
On one end, Randolph got its lone shot of the day when sophomore Sarah Sivick broke free in the midfield and was one-on-one with the keeper.
Her shot didn't have enough juice, however, allowing for a W&L counter.
After a rare misplay in defense, two Generals were clear, putting the clean sheet in danger.
Bates bolted off of her line and met the incoming forwards at the top of her box, forcing a touch that was too long and ending the threat.
The first-year also made a pair of one-handed saves and stopped some point blank opportunities.
Only the ODAC's all-time saves leader, Vickie Johnson, has ever made more than 20 saves in a game for the WildCats.
The Generals finally broke through late, scoring twice in a span of 2:49, earning a 2-0 win. with a 39-1 edge in shots.
Randolph is back in action Wednesday when the WildCats travel across town to Lynchburg.
