Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Randolph used a 37-6 edge in shots to earn a convincing win over Shenandoah in a Saturday matinee.
The WildCats had the first dozen shots in this afternoon's matchup, but could not find the back of the net until their next one, coming in the 24th minute.
Off a long clearance from first-year Cristian Irigoyen down the right side, Sam Griffith, the rookie decided to go to the diving keeper's right on the breakaway, giving his team the edge.
That lead was doubled on the first career goal of Joe Uzdavinis just before halftime.
The junior found himself in a similar position as Griffith was in earlier after sophomore Blake Heatherly played him through the defense.
Uzdavinis took a different approach, however, slipping the ball to the attacking keeper's left, giving him an open net in which to deposit the ball left-footed.
"The midfielders did a great job playing through balls today," Uzdavinis said. "Blake played a ball right through to me and I played it past the keeper."
Late in the second half with the game still in doubt, Heatherly played Uzdavinis on the right wing with the WildCats on a break.
The forward slid the ball to the middle of the field where first-year Tyler Moore quickly dropped it for Heatherly about 30 yards out.
The left back unleashed a laser from there, which beat the keeper to make the lead three.
"The ball was played to Tyler Moore who did a great job laying it off exactly where I could make a clean strike out of it," Heatherly said.
That was enough, as the Hornets never earned a shot on goal in the contest.
Junior goalkeeper CJ Stevens was not required to make a save, but broke up multiple dangerous plays in his area on the day.
"We played well but we have a lot to work on still," Heatherly said. "We're not as good as we're capable of being."
The WildCats next head to Hampden-Sydney on Wednesday night before returning home Saturday for a game against Guilford, which will now start at 5:00 p.m.
