Quinteros Powers Men's Soccer in Win Over JWU

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph College Men's Soccer team won 2-1 after a competitive game against Johnson & Wales University Charlotte on Saturday evening.

After a scoreless first half, the 'Cats found the back of the net in the 62nd minute. Marcus Cortes took a shot, but the JWU keeper couldn't control it, and Corey Williams was there to clean it up and put the WildCats up 1-0.

Johnson & Wales responded with the equalizer 10 minutes later (1-1). Still with plenty of time left on the clock, Randolph didn't back down. Four minutes later, Lance Yeboah intercepted JWU to send it up to Tyler Richardson, who quickly got it to Fernando Quinteros for the game-winning goal (2-1) and his first career goal.

With around 15 minutes remaining, JWU moved fast, looking for open scoring opportunities, but the WildCats' defensive line shut the door each time.

Randolph controlled the offense much of the game with 13 shots, seven on goal, to JWU's seven shots, three on goal. Richardson led the team with three shots, including two on goal. Yeboah added two shots, while Dominic Cortes scooped up two saves.

The 'Cats are on the road on Wednesday at Mary Baldwin. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
