Women's Soccer Comes From Behind to Earn First ODAC Win

Box Score

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- For the second straight game, the WildCats fell behind 1-0 but rallied to tie the score.

Today, the team was on the right side of a 2-1 final, besting Guilford, earning the program's first come-from-behind win since the season opener in 2012.

The first 54 minutes today played out similarly to the team's road trip to East. Mennonite this weekend.

Randolph conceded a first half goal once again, going into halftime down by one.

Unlike Saturday's contest, however, Randolph only mustered one shot in the first frame.

The team's second shot found the back of the net, however, as senior Brittany Hammons took the ball on a breakaway down the left side of the defense and placed it home, leveling in the 53rd minute.

The goal propelled the midfielder into the top five in program history in both career goals and points, joining Amanda Williams, Lyndsey Pelham, Alison Wood and Annie Johnson on both lists.

Randolph's offense heated up after gaining momentum, as the next three shots all came from WildCat players.

Even though Guilford responded and had five of the next six shots, an attempt by Erin McClelland was the only shot Randolph needed in that span, as the sophomore defender scored her second career goal off of a deflected corner kick.

That was the team's only corner kick of the afternoon.

The hosts took three more shots in the final minutes looking to force overtime, but first-year net-minder Stephanie Quirk was never challenged, with the trio of shots all heading wide.

Quirk did her part, stopping two shots in each half to earn the victory in goal.

The game marked the first time Randolph won a game in which it trailed since Aug. 31, 2012 in a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory over Ferrum.

Hammons scored twice in that contest, including the game winner.

This marks the third straight meeting in which the WildCats bested the Quakers. Previous to that, the Quakers had won nine straight and were 20-3-1 all-time agianst Randolph.

The WildCats return home for another league game, with Washington and Lee visiting WildCat Stadium on Saturday in the first half of a double-header. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m.
