Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Randolph, winners of six straight coming into tonight, fell in four sets in the team's ODAC volleyball opener.
After the WildCats jumped out to a 9-8 lead, Bridgewater took nine of the next 10 points growing a comfortable lead and taking the frame.
The WildCats responded well in a thrilling set two.
After Bridgewater scored five straight points to break an 8-8 deadlock, the Eagles held the lead for much of the remainder of the set, seeking to go up 2-0.
At 21-17, Randolph rallied behind kills from senior Katherine Lesnak and junior and three from sophomore Alex Mariona to level the set.
After a timeout, senior Jordan Templin put Randolph up 23-22 and 24-23 one play later.
After Bridgewater fought off a set-point, Templin put Randolph one point away again. Once again, the Eagles were up to the task, setting up an exchange of points, with neither team able to grow the necessary two-point advantage.
A Lesnak kill fought off a Bridgewater set point, and after an exchange of points a Templin ace gave the frame to the WildCats, 33-31.
In set three, Randolph took the first point, but Bridgewater took the next five and took control, winning 25-14.
The Eagles never trailed in set four, but their margin was never comfortable.
Randolph scored three straight to climb out of a 21-16 hole, but couldn't get even, with the Eagles holding off the WildCats with a match-winning ace, 25-22.
With the win, Bridgewater avenges a monumental defeat at the hands of the WildCats last season.
Templin's 17 kills led Randolph, while Mariona added 15 and Lesnak had 12.
Templin was also tops in digs with 18, followed by 16 from Lesnak and 11 from Lexi Harrington.
In the match, Templin became the fifth player in program history with 1,000 career digs.
The match marks the third straight double-double for Templin and her seventh of the year. Lesnak has two straight and four on the year. She has had double-figure digs in five straight matches.
Senior Kerry McMichael followed up her record-setting 50 assist performance with 44 helpers tonight.
On Friday, Randolph will have a chance to level its ODAC record with a road trip to Roanoke.
