LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Randolph cruised to a 9-0 win today in
non-conference action to eclipse the program's record for wins in a
season.
First-year Alison
Henry (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) and
junior Patricia
Verdezoto (Cuenza, Azuay, Ecuador/Bilingue
Interamericano) won at top doubles, while sophomore Dina
Velazco (Barquisimeto, Venezuela/Colegio Las
Fuertes) and
first-year Jenna
Sweet (Clarksville, Md./Atholton) were victorious at No.2.
Both scores were 8-1.
First-year Heather
Parra (Wilmington, N.C./Eugene Ashley) and
sophomore Sarah
Parker (Washington, D.C. / Sidwell
Friends) won via forfeit at third doubles.
The three doubles wins were enough, as junior Danielle
Lewis (Kingston, Jamaica/Immaculate Conception)
and first-year Anna
McKenzie (Kingston, Jamaica/Immaculate
Conception) were awarded
forfeit wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, giving Randolph five
points before the first contest singles match.
Henry, Parra, Parker and Sweet
all took care of business in those contested matches, however,
winning in straight sets in the top four spots.
With the win, Randolph eclipses
last season's 10 wins for the program record.
There is still work to be done,
however, as Randolph's playoff seeding will be impacted greatly by
the result from this Friday's match against Randolph-Macon in ODAC
play.
