BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Randolph will end its season with its
most-ever wins, but fell today to Bridgewater in the ODAC quarters,
5-2.
In a trio of tight matches, Randolph left doubles with a deficit
of 2-1.
At No. 1
doubles, junior Patricia
Verdezoto (Cuenza, Azuay, Ecuador/Bilingue
Interamericano) and
first-year Alison
Henry (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle)
faced Katie Gordon and Maria Hawkins, but fell,
8-4.
At No.
2, sophomore Dina
Velazco (Barquisimeto, Venezuela/Colegio Las
Fuertes) and first-year Jenna
Sweet (Clarksville, Md./Atholton) teamed up for
Randolph's doubles win, taking an 8-5 decision
over Brittany Wilson and Jessie
Mitchell.
The third doubles team
of first-year Heather
Parra (Wilmington, N.C./Eugene
Ashley) and sophomore Sarah
Parker (Washington, D.C. / Sidwell
Friends) dropped an 8-5 match to Holly Knupp and
Whitney Cash to wrap up duo play.
Taking to the court as individuals, Verdezoto missed a chance to
level her record, as she fell to 7-9 on the year with a
narrow 7-5, 6-4 loss to Gordon.
Hawkins, who came in at 12-1 and 7-1 in ODAC play, took
care of Henry, 6-3, 6-1.
Knupp topped Parker, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5,
to wrap up the Bridgewater win.
Sweet was Randolph's lone singles
win, with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over
Cash.
At No. 3 and No. 4, Velazco
and Parra were both in heated matches, but with the result no
longer in doubt, left their matches incomplete.
Randolph finishes the year
at 12-6, which is the first time the team has ever reached a dozen
wins in a single season.
