Women's Tennis Earns Fourth Straight Win, 8-1, Over Virginia Wesleyan

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Randolph won its second match in less than 17 hours with a victory over Virginia Wesleyan this morning.

Coming off of a win late last night at home, Randolph made the trip to Newport News for an early match this morning.

The WildCats came out on top, however, winning 8-1 over the Marlins.

First-year Heather Parra (Wilmington, N.C./Eugene Ashley) and junior Patricia Verdezoto (Cuenza, Azuay, Ecuador/Bilingue Interamericano) competed in a hard-fought first doubles match, winning 9-8.

At second doubles, first-year Jenna Sweet (Clarksville, Md./Atholton) and sophomore Dina Velazco (Barquisimeto, Venezuela/Colegio Las Fuertes) won, 8-3.

Junior Danielle Lewis (Kingston, Jamaica/Immaculate Conception) and sophomore Sarah Parker (Washington, D.C. / Sidwell Friends) won at No. 3, 8-2, to complete the doubles sweep.

Verdezoto and Velazco won at top two singles, both in straight sets.

After Parra fell at No. 3, Parker, Sweet and junior Danielle Lewis (Kingston, Jamaica/Immaculate Conception) all won 6-0, 6-0.

Randolph, sitting at 8-2 and 4-1 in ODAC play, will compete at Washington and Lee on Tuesday.
