Women's Tennis Earns a 5-3 Win over Emory & Henry Friday Night

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- In a match moved to an indoor facility, Randolph's women's team came out victorious in ODAC play this evening.

The WildCats were aided by three default wins, as Emory & Henry conceded No. 3 doubles and No. 5 and No. 6 singles before the match even started.

With a 3-0 lead out of the gate, Randolph had a chance to clinch the match without even competing in a singles match, but the top doubles pair of first-year Alison Henry (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) and junior Patricia Verdezoto (Cuenza, Azuay, Ecuador/Bilingue Interamericano) fell, 8-1.

At second doubles, first-year Jenna Sweet (Clarksville, Md./Atholton) and sophomore Dina Velazco (Barquisimeto, Venezuela/Colegio Las Fuertes pulled Randolph within one win with an 8-4 victory.

Henry and Verdezoto took the court in singles play, next, with both falling 6-0, 6-2, pulling E&H within 4-3.

Velazco finished of the Wasps with a straight-set win at No. 3, however, winning 6-4, 6-0.

With the win, the WildCats move to 7-2 and 3-1 in conference play. The 'Cats have won three straight.
