Box Score

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Randolph earned its second straight opening day win with a 10-4 victory over Alma this afternoon.

Shane Soghomonian (Gaithersburg, Md./Watkins Mill) got his first season in black and yellow off to a fast start, scoring the first three Randolph (1-0) goals, all in a span of 4:06.

Senior Bobby Crosby (Bethel, Conn./Bethel) stuck the next two\, followed by one from sophomore Andrew Gleitz (Plymouth, Ind./Culver Military Academy) giving Randolph a 6-0 lead.

Alma (0-3) got one back with 2:39 to go before halftime, but sophomore Andrew Risse (Annandale, Va./Annandale) tallied a man-up marker to maintain Randolph's six goal lead heading into intermission.

In the second half, the teams alternated the final six goals, giving Randolph the 10-4 win.

Randolph's second half goals were contributed by first-year Scott Wilkinson (Glen Allen, Va./Patrick Henry), Soghomonian and Crosby.

Seven of Randolph's goals were assisted, each by a different player.

In net, sophomore Cam Davis (Gibsonville, N.C./Western Alamance) was outstanding, stopping 12 shots on net, shutting out the Scots for the first 27:11 of the game.

Six of Davis's saves were made in the final quarter, including a huge kick save off a five yard look.

"I think we played well defensively," Davis said. "I'm very happy with our defense tonight. They really helped me out."

Senior John Grundy Jr. (Warrenton,Va./Battlefield) won nine of his 14 faceoffs, scooping up five ground balls in the process.

Only classmate Ryan Pearson (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon), with six, had more. Pearson also caused four turnovers, also good for game high honors.

Randolph's 2013 season marked the first time the team ever won its opener, and this year's squad can be the first to start a year 2-0 with a win at Methodist on Saturday.

"It's a good start to the season. I saw a lot of good things from this group," head coach Andy Sinclair said. "We had a very strong first half and I'm excited about where this group is headed. I certainly think we have things to improve on but overall it was a great first win over a quality team."
