Women's Tennis Dominates Spring Opener Dropping Just Four Games Total

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Coming off of a long delay between matches, Randolph stayed undefeated by crushing Averett, 9-0 today.

The WildCats were dominant as they played in their first match since October. The women only lost a combined four games the entire day, two in the doubles matches and two in the singles.

First-year Alison Henry (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) and junior Patricia Verdezoto (Cuenza, Azuay, Ecuador/Bilingue Interamericano) paired up as Randolph's only undefeated duo, winning their match, 8-1.

The pairs of sophomore Dina Velazco (Barquisimeto, Venezuela/Colegio Las Fuertes) and first-year Jenna Sweet (Clarksville, Md./Atholton) as well as first-year Heather Parra (Wilmington, N.C./Eugene Ashley) and sophomore Sarah Parker (Washington, D.C. / Sidwell Friends) both won their matches 8-1.

In the singles portion of the match Verdezoto, Velazco, Parra and Sweet all won their matches in straight sets. Henry and Parker both won their matches 6-0, 6-1.

This was Randolph's only home match this month, and the team will next take on Southern Virginia on the road at 3 p.m., on Feb. 27.
