Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. -- For the first time since 1995-97, Randolph has started the season 2-0 in consecutive years, taking a 60-50 win over Southern Virginia.
With the win, Randolph advances to the 15th Annual Jackie Ammons Memorial Tournament final against the winner of tonight's contest between Mid-Atlantic Christian and the hosts, William Peace.
The final is slated for 3:00 p.m., Saturday, following the consolation tilt.
Randolph led wire to wire tonight, as senior Jensen Hoover and junior Abigail Bullins each hit from the floor to put Randolph up 4-0, keying a 10-2 start, and giving the WildCats a lead they would never relinquish.
After taking a six-point lead into intermission, Randolph fended off multiple rallies by SVU, keeping the Knights at least two possessions away for the duration of the second half.
A 6-0 run made the Randolph lead a comfortable 16 as the WildCats coasted down the stretch to the 10-point victory.
Nine WildCats scored, led by 19 from Bullins. Hoover was Randolph's other double digit scorer, with 10 and her seven rebounds was just one shy of senior Allie Druffel's team-high of eight.
Druffel added a career-high five steals, as well.
SVU's Crystal Cleveland posted 14 points and 17 rebounds in the loss, both team highs.
The WildCats will look to move to 3-0 on Saturday, which would mark the first time in program history in which the team won three straight to open the year in consecutive years.
Last season's 5-0 start matched the program's best-ever start, tying the 1996-97 campaign and matching the longest winning streak in program history.
