Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Four days after dropping the regular season finale, 3-0, to their cross-town rivals, the WildCats once again were on the wrong end of that scoreline tonight in the ODAC tournament.
In front of a strong and evenly-split crowd, #7 Randolph and #2 Lynchburg braved the cold weather for a their ODAC tournament opener under the lights on Lynchburg's campus.
The first half gave fans of both teams something to be excited about, as each team had chances in the balanced affair.
Sam Griffith had Randolph's best look with time running down in the first half, as the first-year streaked down the middle of the field and released a shot to the keeper's left, which required a diving save.
On the other end, junior CJ Stevens came out hard on a play down his right flank to cut down Lynchburg's best chance, sending the teams to the break tied.
In the second half, the Hornets used set pieces to finally get the best of the WildCat defense.
Off of a throw-in, the hosts got on the board in the 51st minute, and doubled the lead ten minutes later off a corner, which was put in after a rebound.
Later, off of a foul, the lead went to 3-0, icing the contest.
Lynchburg advances to host #3 Virginia Wesleyan, while the WildCats see their season end.
"I was very proud of the first half. We battled and I thought got the better of the play," head coach Bryan Waggoner said after the game. "The Lynchburg guys, to their credit, understood the magnitude of the game and the moment and found a little extra and really took it to us in the second half."
