Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Randolph dropped a 3-0 decision to cross-town rival Lynchburg, but will possibly have another crack at the Hornets on Saturday in the ODAC quarterfinals.
With the WildCats losing, they had to wait for results from around the ODAC to see if they made the playoffs.
Thanks to a double-overtime goal by Roanoke, the WildCats punched their ticket to the playoffs, unofficially as the seventh seed, setting the team up with a rematch with the unofficial two seed: their Tuesday night opponents.
The WildCats, along with Eastern Mennonite and Bridgewater, all finish with 15 points, tying for the No. 6-8 spots in the standings. With these teams all splitting 1-0 decisions against each other, the ODAC goes to the "five point tiebreaker" which rewards stronger victories.
Bridgewater would unofficially come out on top due to their win against Lynchburg, while the WildCats unofficially are second, giving them the No. 7 seed and a return trip against No. 2 Lynchburg on Saturday.
In the contest tonight, Lynchburg scored on their second shot on goal, after senior Coulton Watson cleared the first shot on goal off the line with a key team save.
The Hornets used the momentum of that goal to score twice in the second half, putting the WildCats away.
Randolph had two good chances with sophomore Brian Anderson and senior Scott Holthaus both having great looks at the goal, but were turned away.
Official pairings for the playoffs will come out at the conclusion of games Wednesday.
