Randolph Drops Decision at Roanoke in Women's Soccer

Box Score

SALEM, Va. -- Randolph's playoff hopes came to an end today, as the WildCats were on the short end of a 2-0 decision at Roanoke this evening.

Roanoke dominated possession, but the WildCat defense was impressive once again, led by first-year goalkeeper Quinn-Lynn Bates.

The hosts kept the ball for much of the first half, but Randolph's defense stood tall, allowing a lone goal in the face of a dozen shots, seven of which were on goal.

In the second stanza, the Maroons continued to press, but could not find a way to double their lead for much of the period.

Despite being on the defensive end of the first 25 shots of the game, Randolph still had a chance to equalize with 10 minutes to go.

Randolph's best opportunity came in the 81st minute, when sophomore defender Erin McClelland put a ball on cage, but couldn't get it past the keeper.

Roanoke responded, putting the next two shots on goal, the second of which found the back of the net.

Bates finished with a dozen saves, marking the sixth game in seven in which she has earned double-digit saves.

With the loss, the WildCats are eliminated from postseason consideration.

The team has a chance to close out the season strongly with two home matches, starting with a Homecoming contest against Hollins at 4 p.m.
