LYNCHBURG, Va. -- On an emotional night at WildCat Stadium, Randolph-Macon scored late in the second half to break a deadlock, earning a women's soccer victory.

Randolph came out sporting pink for its Breast Cancer Awareness Game and held a special ceremony pre-game to dedicate the contest to long-time Randolph security guard Roy Evans and his late wife, Tina.

Once the game got underway, Randolph-Macon turned the pressure on early.

Erin Dziedzina broke free of the defense for the Yellow Jackets in the third minute, but a charging Quinn-Lynn Bates forced a pressured shot, clanging off the post.

The first-year keeper was tested again 10 minutes later, when Jen LaBarge slid a pass from the end line to Kasey Martino, who found the back of the net.

Over the next 25 minutes, the game was played mostly in the midfield, with just two shots coming in that time frame.

Off of a cautioned foul against the Jackets, sophomore Alissa Gembach sent a dangerous free kick into the box, where it was misplayed, leaving first-year Austin Wampler with the ball at her feet at the penalty spot.

The midfielder was true with her shot into the open net, leveling the score with 10 minutes until the break.

Randolph-Macon responded with a dangerous opportunity minutes later, but sophomore Maggie Croft cleared a loose ball from danger just in front of an open net, sending the teams to the second half level.

Bates made nine saves in the second half, but conceded the go-ahead goal in the 73rd minute when Dziedzina took a high shot from a tough angle, perfectly placed in the top corner.

Sophomore Sarah Sivick and Gembach each had opportunities late, but could not equalize a second time.

Randolph next heads on the road to face Roanoke on Tuesday before returning home for Saturday's Senior Day and Homecoming festivities.
