Men's Soccer and Hampden-Sydney Held to Scoreless Draw

Box Score

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- The teams ranked No. 1 and No. 3 in the ODAC in scoring defense lived up to the billing in a scoreless draw this evening.

Junior goalkeeper CJ Stevens helped Randolph to a sixth clean sheet of the year, making two stops in the contest.

Stevens wasn't busy early, as Randolph had the game's first four shots on goal through an hour of play.

The first great Hampden-Sydney chance came in the 67th minute, when sophomore Blake Heatherly cleared the ball off the goalline to save a score.

The WildCats kept the heat on, holding a 20-12 advantage in shots, but could never score, as Stevens was required to make a save with one second left, forcing overtime.

Sophomores Brian Anderson and Kyle Unruh both had shots in the second overtime, but were turned away.

The WildCats are now 5-0-1 when posting a clean sheet, while sitting at 0-2-1 when conceding.

Randolph is also 9-0-5 in its last 14 regular season overtime contests.

Randolph will have back-to-back games this weekend, playing at home against Guilford on Saturday at 5 p.m., before traveling to nationally-ranked Christopher Newport on Sunday at 6 p.m.

The game against Guilford will be a Cancer Awareness Game, with the team wearing light blue in honor of prostate cancer awareness.
