Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. -- One night after a frustrating game in which Randolph only mustered one goal, they exploded for eight.
Holding a 43-3 edge in shots, Randolph (3-0-1) dominated play over Southern Virginia (0-3), avenging a loss from last season.
It took less than ten minutes for the WildCats to break through as Julian Khalili (Falmouth, Va./Stafford) netted his third goal of the year off a Jacob Lusczek (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) cross.
Lusczek and Khalili connected again just over 11 minutes later, this time the two assisted Corey Sindle (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester).
Randolph took a 3-0 lead when Nick Cornell (Front Royal, Va./Warren Co.) curled in a lefty corner kick to the far post, just tucking it inside the top corner.
With time running down in the second half midfielder Brian Anderson (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) danced through the defense, leaving himself free with just the goalie to beat. Scott Zaring, who to that point had made eight saves in less than a half, took down Anderson, forcing a red card and a penalty.
Head coach Bryan Waggoner allowed the man who earned the penalty to take the attempt, which the first-year player converted, putting a 4-0 score on the board just before intermission.
Out of the break, John Adams (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) scored a pair of goals just 1:12 apart to blow the game open.
The senior's first goal was unassisted in a scrum, but his second was a great team effort. Sindle cleared the ball from just outside his own box to a streaking Lusczek, who played the ball down to his feet. He slid the ball to Adams who was left open for an open rip to the near side.
Grant Collier (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) wrapped up the scoring with a pair of goals of his own in a 1:40 span with time running out.
His first goal was due in large part to the tremendous effort of Troy Jurney (Camp Lejeune, N.C./White Oak). The first-year player made a nifty turn just past the midfield stripe to free himself of one defender, while beating another to the ball, which he slid further along the sideline. Just before the endline, he hit a low cross right to Collier's waiting feet for the goal.
Collier was the one with fancy footwork on the team's eighth goal of the game, when his smooth dribble off a pass from first-year Campbell Bishop (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) gave the WildCats a well-earned reward of a steady sequence of passes.
While Collier's first goal gave Randolph its program record for most points in a game (previously 19), his second gave the team the more coveted record: goals in a game (previously 7). Both bests were held by the 2011 team against now-ODAC rival Shenandoah.
While the defense prevented Randolph's goalkeepers from getting too much work, Carter Smith (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) and Shelby Streeter (Fredericksburg, Va./Fredericksburg Christian) combined to stop all three shots to come their way.
