Offense Stays in High Gear, Powers WildCats to a 6-0 Victory

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Fresh off of an eight-goal outburst, men's soccer tallied six more tonight.

17:42 into the contest, Randolph (4-0-1) got onto the scoreboard first with a goal from senior Corey Sindle (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) whose 25-yard shot struck the net far side to put the WildCats up.

Randolph's next two goals both came from senior Jacob Lusczek (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) over 45 minutes apart.

For his first, the midfielder carried a ball down the sideline and worked it into the box before turning and getting enough on the shot to beat the keeper, who took some steam off the shot before it trickled into the net.

After the half, Lusczek corralled a loose header off of an Averett (1-4-1) defender, worked it into the box again, then shot with his left foot inside the post, upping the lead to three.

The next goal came from Blake Heatherly (Jacksonville, N.C./Jacksonville) at 75:04. The first-year made his mark by carrying the ball through the midfield, finding space, and ripping a shot from just outside the box to make it 4-0.

First-year Brian Anderson (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) netted a pair in the last 7:10, both assisted.

Sindle set up the first on a through ball which left the defenders clamoring for an offside whistle, but when the assistant linesman kept his flag down, Anderson was left one-on-one with the keeper, setting up an easy chip.

On the second, senior Nick Cornell (Front Royal, Va./Warren Co.) curled a corner kick right into the mix in the middle, where Anderson headed it home.

Cornell has proved himself to be a weapon on these restarts, as he scored in his last game directly from the corner flag into the far side netting.

In net, senior Carter Smith (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) was only called upon twice, but made both saves to earn the shutout.

Randolph exacted a measure of revenge as the team was 0-1-1 in the last two years against Averett, drawing 1-1 last year. This year, the WildCats dominated shots (25-8) and corners (12-1) on their way to the 6-0 scoreline.
