ASHLAND, Va. – Randolph-Macon College earned a hard fought Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match over the Randolph College women's tennis team Saturday, prevailing with a 7-2 score.
The Yellow Jackets (7-10/4-3 ODAC) picked up all three points in doubles action, as Randolph was forced to have to earn five of the six singles' pairings to win the match. WildCat sophomore Patricia Verdezoto (Cuenza, Azuay, Ecuador/Bilingue Interamericano) picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles for Randolph, and Danielle Lewis (Kingston, Jamaica/Immaculate Conception) also earned a 6-4, 6-4 straight set victory.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Kolster (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan), who was dealing with nagging injuries, toughed out a grueling three-setter before falling at No. 4 singles. First-year Dina Velazco (Barquisimeto, Venezuela / Colegio Las Fuertes) battled but fell at No. 1 singles as well, dropping her match in three sets.
The WildCats (6-5/3-5 ODAC) will now head to non-conference Bluefield College Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. for action with the Rams.
