Box Score

ROANOKE, Va. – The Randolph College women's lacrosse team set the single-game scoring mark for goals in a contest with 22 Wednesday, rolling to a 22-4 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Hollins University.

HU (1-8/0-6 ODAC) struck first to take a 1-0 lead only 23 seconds into the game, but Randolph responded with back-to-back strikes from senior Danielle Haney (Norwood, Pa./Interboro) to take a 2-1 lead. Fellow senior Jess Andersen (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) followed with a strike of her own, but HU got a goal from Chanci Wright to make it a one-goal contest again.

The rest of the first half was all Randolph (4-7/1-5 ODAC), as the WildCats would score the next eight goals to take an 11-2 lead. After HU netted a score with 4:29 left, Randolph tallied three more just before the half to take a 14-3 edge into halftime. After the break the WildCats continued to roll, outscoring Hollins 8-1 in the second half to pick up their first league win of the season.

The WildCats were led by the six goals and four assists from Haney, who tied the school record for points in a game with 10. Sophomore middie Taylor Klevenz (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill) had five goals and three assists, while Andersen chalked up a career-high of four goals, adding three ground balls and four caused turnovers as well.

Junior Ashley Edwards (Sumerduck, Va./Liberty-Bealeton) was outstanding for Randolph, scoring four times and dishing out two assists while grabbing four draw controls. Fellow junior Melanie Eisele (Kennett Square, Penn./Sanford School) struck twice for goals, and Samie Maggard (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) had four ground balls and four caused turnovers. Keepers Samantha Fagone (Bayshore, N.Y./Bayshore) and Sara Woodward (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) combined to make six saves for Randolph.

The visitors outshot Hollins 37-14 on the afternoon, and were a perfect 14-for-14 on clear attempts. The WildCats also turned the ball over just 14 times, a season low in 2013. The 22 goals were the most in a game, breaking the previous mark of 19 which was set on three different occasions.

The WildCats will return to action in seven days with a road trip to take on the Hornets of Shenandoah University April 10 at 7 p.m. in Winchester, Va.
