Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph College women's lacrosse team finished its 2013 season Saturday afternoon by scoring most goals against Roanoke College than it ever has, but it still was not quite enough in dropping an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest to the Maroons 23-12 in action on Senior Day from WildCat Stadium.
The Maroons (9-7/8-2 ODAC) jumped out to a 10-1 lead with 5:42 left in the first half, but then the WildCats would start to make a run. Randolph scored five of the next seven goals over the next seven minutes of game action, with three coming from junior Melanie Eisele (Kennett Square, Penn./Sanford School) and a pair from senior Danielle Haney (Norwood, Penn./Interboro).
Thought Roanoke would score seven of the next eight tallies, the WildCats (4-11/1-9 ODAC) would not go away scored three of the final four goals of the game to finish the season on a high note. The WildCats were paced by the four scores from Eisele, who completed the season with a career-high 23 goals after never scoring more than six in her first two seasons.
Haney finished her fantastic WildCat career with three scores, as she tops the all-time goal chart at Randolph with 118 goals scored. Sophomore Taylor Klevenz (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill) ended the game with a goal and WildCat game record five assists. She blew the previous assist record of 14 for a season out of the water by finishing with 26 on the year. She also added five draw controls.
Junior Ashley Edwards (Sumerduck, Va./Liberty-Bealeton) had two goals, an assist and four draw controls, while Fran Klostermyer (Princeton, N.J./Montgomery) added a goal, an assist and three draw captures. Senior Ashley Stevens (Leicester, Mass./St. Peter-Marian) had three caused turnovers in her final game, and fellow senior Morgan Thompson (Sandy Hook, Va./Goochland) had a caused giveaway and a ground ball.
Randolph was outshot on the afternoon by the Maroons 38-22, though the Maroons held only a slight 18-17 lead in draw controls. Both teams posted a three-for-six conversion clip on free position shots. Roanoke was paced by the game-best eight goals from Darragh Evarts, while Allison Bonanno had four goals and six assists. Jamie Golden added four goals and Lauren Curtin made five saves in net.
The WildCats finished the season with team records in multiple categories, including goals (155), assists (66), points (221), draw controls (194), man up goals (16) and goals against average. Randolph is set to return 12 players back in 2014.
