Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph College women's lacrosse team had an upset on its mind through the first half, but Lynchburg College was too much in the end as the WildCats dropped an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tussle with the Hornets 19-8 Saturday afternoon from WildCat Stadium.
Lynchburg's Julie Will opened the scoring at 28:19 of the first half, but the WildCats would come right back with a goal of their own. Sophomore Taylor Klevenz (Cherry Hill, Va./Cherry Hill) took a nice feed from Ashley Edwards (Sumerduck, Va./Liberty-Bealeton) to tie the game minutes after the Will strike, and Randolph sprinted out in front nearly nine minutes later as Melanie Eisele (Kennett Square, Penn./Sanford School) jumped, caught a pass from Klevenz and shot all in one motion to score her 19th of the year.
The Hornets would strike four times in a row, but Klevenz found the back of the net for the 31st time this season with 10:15 left in the half to make it a two-goal game. Katie Seidel of Lynchburg finished twice consecutively which helped the Hornets take a 9-4 lead into the break.
After halftime, Eisele scored to pull the WildCats to within four at 9-5, but LC rattled off five in a row to take a nine-goal lead. The hosts would continue to play hard, but the Hornets pulled away for the win. Klevenz had three goals, three draw controls and an assist to pace the 'Cats, while senior Danielle Haney (Norwood, Pa./Interboro) scored twice.
Eisele found the back of the net two times, and Edwards finished with a goal, an assist and three draw controls. Taylor Riccardi (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge Co.) assisted on one of the WildCat goals, and Samantha Fagone (Bayshore, N.Y./Bayshore) was great on the day, making 16 saves. Ashley Stevens (Leicester, Mass./St. Peter-Marian) added two caused turnovers and two ground balls, and Jess Andersen (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) posted three draw controls.
The WildCats were outshot 41-18 on the afternoon, but only narrowly trailed in ground balls (22-19) and draw controls (16-13). Lynchburg got a game-high four goals from Bri Slate, and Kendall Adkin had three goals and an assist as well.
Randolph will head to Sweet Briar College Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. to battle the Vixens in a league affair.
