WildCat Women's Tennis Cruises By Ferrum College Wednesday 8-1

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Randolph College won its third straight match Wednesday afternoon, taking down the Panthers of Ferrum College 8-1 in non-conference action. The WildCats are now a perfect 5-0 in out-of-league play this season, and 5-1 in away matches.

The WildCats (9-5) chalked up three wins in pairs play, as Patricia Verdezoto (Cuenza, Azuay, Ecuador/Bilingue Interamericano) and Kaitlyn Kolster (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) earned an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles. Sophomore Anna Culpepper (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) and partner Dina Velazco (Barquisimeto, Venezuela / Colegio Las Fuertes) blanked their FC opponents 8-0 at No. 2, and are now 3-1 on the year at the second spot in the doubles rotation.

First-year Emmalyn Snead (Fredericksburg, Va./James Monroe) and captain Danielle Lewis (Kingston, Jamaica/Immaculate Conception) edged out Ferrum's Rachel Belcher and Kyra Schultz at No. 3 doubles 8-6 to help sweep the pairs competitions. In singles action, Velazco earned her eighth win of the year with a 6-2, 6-0 straight set victory.

Verdezoto won 12 of the 13 games she played over two sets to earn a No. 2 singles victory, as she has now won six consecutive matches. Culpepper rolled to a 6-1, 6-4 win at the No. 3 spot, and Kolster picked up her team-best ninth win of the year with a 6-0, 1-0 victory. Lewis earned a win as well at the No. 6 spot, chalking up a 6-1, 6-0 tally. Ferrum's only point came at No. 5 singles, as Belcher knocked off Snead 6-2, 6-3. 

Randolph will host Guilford College Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the final home match of the season for the WildCats.
