Randolph Women's Tennis Drops ODAC Contest to Bridgewater 7-2 Friday

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Randolph College women's tennis team trailed by one point after doubles but couldn't get much going in singles action, falling to Bridgewater College 7-2 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Friday.

In doubles, sophomores Patricia Verdezoto (Cuenza, Azuay, Ecuador/Bilingue Interamericano) and Kaitlyn Kolster (Powhatan, Va./Powhathan) rolled to a 8-4 win in No. 2 pairs. Randolph's No. 1 pairing of Anna Culpepper (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) and Dina Velazco (Barquisimeto, Venezuela / Colegio Las Fuertes) fought hard but fell 8-6.

Moving to singles, the WildCats (3-2/0-2 ODAC) earned just one individual point as Velazco moved her ODAC record to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 straight set win. Sophomore captain Danielle Lewis (Kingston, Jamaica/Immaculate Conception) narrowly fell in set one 7-5 in her No. 6 singles match, dropping the second set 6-2.

Randolph is back in action this Saturday afternoon at Emory & Henry College for another conference match at 1 p.m.
