LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph College men's lacrosse team opened its 2013 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) slate Friday, falling to visiting Roanoke College 18-4 in league play from WildCat Stadium.

The Maroons (3-2/1-0 ODAC) jumped out on top with two quick goals, as Richard Lachlan and Tyler McWilliams found the back of the net. Randolph leading scorer Colton Wood (Chula Vista, Calif./Otay Ranch) scored a beautiful goal to cut the lead in half with 11:47 left to play in the first quarter.

Roanoke would go on a 9-0 run over the next quarter and a half before the Wood potted a man-up goal on an assist from John Croney (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) to make the score 11-2 going into halftime. The WildCats jumped out of halftime with two straight tallies, as Bobby Crosby (Bethel, Conn./Bethel) was set up by his brother Brian Crosby (Bethel, Conn./Bethel) at 9:09 of the third quarter. Crosby then set up Wood's third goal of the game minutes later with the man advantage to make the score 11-4.

That was all the WildCats would get though, as the Maroons finished the contest on a 7-0 run to pick up the conference victory. Wood had three goals on four shots for the WildCats, causing two turnovers as well. Ryan Pearson (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) was stellar on defense, picking up three ground balls and causing five giveaways.

Sophomore Ryan Mahon (Monroe, N.Y./Peddie School) chalked up four ground balls and two caused turnovers, while John Grundy (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) added four loose ball pickups. First-year keeper Cam Davis (Gibsonville, N.C./Western Alamance) had 17 saves and five ground balls in the loss.

Will Pilat led all scorers with four goals and an assist for the visiting Maroons, while McWilliams booked two scores and two helpers. Brendan Nizolek also netted a pair for Roanoke, which had 13 different goal scorers. RC outshot the WildCats 42-17 and also won the ground ball battle 52-36. Roanoke was three-for-five on EMO, while Randolph deposited two power play scores.

Randolph is off for seven days before hosting Shenandoah University March 23 at 6 p.m. in WildCat Stadium.
