Andrew Risse Nets Pair As Randolph Men's Lacrosse Drops 12-5 Decision To Greensboro

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College men's lacrosse team outscored Greensboro College 3-2 in the fourth quarter but managed just two goals in the first three periods in falling to the Pride 12-5 in non-conference action from WildCat Stadium Wednesday.

The game, which was originally scheduled to be played in Greensboro, was moved to Lynchburg Tuesday evening after playing conditions on Pride Field were deemed unplayable. The game was slow to get going, as the score was just 2-0 in favor of GC after a defensively-minded first quarter. The Pride's two goals came within 1:18 of each other, but then the WildCats held Greensboro off the board for the final 11:28 of the opening stanza.

In the second period, Randolph got going with 9:32 remaining in the first half thanks to an Andrew Risse (Annandale, VA/Blue Ridge Prep.) tally with help from junior Bobby Crosby (Bethel, CT/Bethel). GC answered with a pair of goals to up its lead to four, which is where it would stand at halftime with a score of 5-1.

The deciding period was the third, as the Pride came out of halftime and netted five consecutive tallies before Risse struck for his second of the evening, again from Crosby, to break the Pride scoring run. In the fourth quarter, Crosby and Colton Wood (Chula Vista, CA/Otay Ranch) each netted man-up goals for Randolph, while senior Stephen Allman (Goodview, VA/Roanoke Catholic) also tallied unassisted.

Crosby had a team-best three points on the evening for Randolph, while Jon O'Hara (Yorktown, VA/Grafton) dished out a pair of assists for the WildCats. First-year keeper Cam Davis (Gibsonville, NC/Western Alamance ) was again stellar in net, making 16 saves on the evening.

Defender Ryan Pearson (Asbury, NJ/North Hunterdon) had two caused turnovers and five ground balls, while senior Ryan Blackwell (Brambleton, VA/Briar Woods) added four ground balls. First-year Baden James (Alexandria, VA/Edison) and junior John Grundy (Gainesville, VA/Battlefield) both had three ground balls for the WildCats, while senior John Croney (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) picked up four loose balls.

The Pride (1-4) was paced by the three goals from Ryan McNamara, with Scott Schowalter registering two goals and two assists to help Greensboro. Jaeger Carlyle and Denis Radcliffe each put up two goals and an assists, and Thomas Brooks posted two scores for the visitors. Mitchell Kanowicz and CJ Meinhardt combined to make nine saves for the Pride.

GC outshot the WildCats 44-28 on the evening, winning the ground ball battle 40-35. Pride faceoff man Skip Jakupi was great all night, winning 11-of-16 to help Greensboro to a 12-of-19 clip on draws. Randolph was two-of-eight on man-up situations, holding the Pride to just one power play goal on six chances.

Randolph is off until March 9 when Susquehanna University comes to WildCat Stadium for a noon face-off in non-conference play.
