Men's Soccer Wraps Up Regular Season against W&L

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- While Randolph has already clinched the ODAC's top seed, tonight's game at 7 p.m., will be important for continuing momentum heading into the playoffs.

About at the WildCats:

Randolph has clinched the top seed in the ODAC tournament and home-field throughout the playoffs, as well as a share of the regular season title. The team can clinch the outright title with a win or tie or a Virginia Wesleyan loss or tie tomorrow.

With the top seed locked up, Randolph will host the eighth team in the tournament on Saturday at a time yet to be determined.

Opponent and time will likely be officially announced tomorrow.

Currently, Guilford holds that position, but can be caught by Randolph-Macon possibly tonight. The WildCats rolled over Guilford, 4-0, earlier this year, while it took a 72nd minute strike from first-year Blake Heatherly (Jacksonville, N.C./Jacksonville) to push Randolph past the Yellow Jackets.

Despite the team's first loss of the season last week, voters still recognized Randolph in the top 25 on the D3soccer.com poll, slotting Randolph at No. 19.

Corey Sindle (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) now has 50 goals, 18 assists and 118 points in his storied career. His point total puts him seventh in ODAC history, but just three points behind fourth all-time. He became the sixth player in ODAC history to score 50 career goals, and is seven behind the league's all-time record.

As a squad, Randolph has 57 goals and 39 assists, the same exact figures as the entire 2011 campaign. The next goal, assist and point will therefore each break single-season program records.

Sindle already broke the single-season program record in goals and points, while classmate Jacob Lusczek (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) bested his own mark for assists. Both are the career leaders in those categories as well.

About the Generals:

Washington and Lee is sandwiched between Virginia Wesleyan and Lynchburg among the three other teams that will host quarterfinal games at the top of the ODAC.

The Generals can assure themselves a home game next Wednesday, should they win their quarterfinal matchup, with a win tonight and a loss or tie by Virginia Wesleyan tomorrow.

At 7-1-2 in conference play, the Generals' lone loss was against the Marlins two weeks ago.

Zach Colby, last year's conference leader in goals and points, has 13 goals this year, second behind only Sindle. Colby would be the only player since 2009 to score a baker's dozen goals in the regular season, if not for Randolph's forward.

On the other end, Albert Civitarese leads the conference in goals against average and save percentage.

About the matchup:

Randolph has never beaten Washington and Lee in five low-scoring affairs.

Never have these teams put up more than two combined goals in regulation against each other, with 2-0 and 1-0 regulation wins for W&L, a 2-1 overtime win for the Generals, and a pair of draws.

Last year's contest was a scoreless tie.

WildCats to watch:

If there was a game built for Will Wolf (Goldsboro, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons), this would be it.

An important defender for the WildCats, Wolf will be charged with helping contain one of the most prolific scorers in recent ODAC history in Zach Colby.

The senior has also thrived in close games, scoring seven of his 11 career goals as game-winners.

Considering three of the last four matchups between these teams went to overtime, Wolf may be in his element.
