Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Before the game, just the 15 seniors were honored. After the game, the entire team celebrated the clinching of the top seed.
Pregame, Randolph (14-1-1, 9-1 ODAC) took the time to recognize its graduating class of 2014, a group of 15 that helped lead the team to the Sweet 16 and an ODAC title in 2011.
Once the contest started, the fourth-year players played a big role in the team getting up early.
After John Adams (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) and Jacob Lusczek (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) each had shots snuffed out, classmate Jake Hood (New Market, Md./Linganore) cleaned up the mess to get the WildCats up just 15:35 in.
Seven minutes later, Hood was taken down hard in the box, earning a penalty kick.
Adams was true from the spot, doubling the lead over Bridgewater (7-7-3, 4-4-3 ODAC).
A first-year got into the act later when Blake Heatherly (Jacksonville, N.C./Jacksonville) found twine after senior Nick Cornell (Front Royal, Va./Warren Co.) curled in a perfect corner kick on the first play after being inserted into the game.
When the goaltender couldn't hold the ball, Heatherly finished, making the lead three just 35:12 after the game's start.
While no more goals were scored over the final hour or so, the 3-0 victory was convincing, behind a 38-10 edge in shots.
While Randolph had already clinched a first round game at home, the win gave the team a 9-1 record, out of reach of every team besides 8-2 Virginia Wesleyan in the ODAC standings.
With Randolph already beating the Marlins this year to earn the tiebreaker, Randolph cannot finish lower than the top seed, and will host each game of the tournament it reaches.
After facing Washington & Lee in the regular season finale at WildCat Stadium on Tuesday, Randolph will host either Guilford or Randolph-Macon on Saturday, Nov. 2 in the ODAC quarterfinals.
