Volleyball Improves to 5-1 at Home in Three-Setter on Pink Night

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- In a must-win ODAC match, Randolph bested Hollins in three sets tonight at the RAD Center.

The first set was close early, but turned out anticlimactic as the WildCats (10-8, 2-6 ODAC) pulled away and won on a Hollins (4-21, 1-8 ODAC) service error.

The second set went Randolph's way after getting up to 23-17. Junior Jordan Templin (Ferrum, Va./Franklin Co.) put Randolph at set point with a kill.

On the set's final point, Templin and first-year Cassie Maddox (Amherst, Va./Amherst) combined to incredibly salvage a near-kill by Hollins, setting up a block by Templin and first-year Noelle Wojciechowski (Greensboro, N.C./Page) to put Randolph up 2-0.

Templin took over in the third set, killing almost a third of Randolph's points, finishing with eight in the frame and 14 overall.

After the WildCats got up 20-13, Hollins inched back, getting with one at 23-22. Two points away from victory, Templin checked back into the game, took one swing, got the 'Cats a side out and match point, and was subbed out immediately.

From there, Wojciechowski finished off Hollins with a kill.

Randolph moves to 2-6 in ODAC play, a half game out of the playoffs. The 'Cats are chasing a Bridgewater team that is currently 3-6, but has played one more game and would lose a tiebreaker to the WildCats based on the teams' earlier matchup.

Both teams still face undefeated Washington & Lee. The Eagles also have 2-7 Eastern Mennonite on their slate. Randolph faces the Generals, as well as Shenandoah and Roanoke.

When Roanoke comes to the RAD Center for senior night on Nov. 1, all other teams in contention will have already finished their conference schedule, meaning the season could come down to that game.

"We were very efficient tonight and disciplined tonight," head coach Johnathan Willis said. "Defensively, we were very strong. We made plays at the right moments and that's been the difference-maker for us the last several matches."
