Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, NC – Randolph College junior Will Wolf (Goldsboro, NC/Cardinal Gibbons) headed in the game-winner off a corner kick 6:23 into the first overtime period to lift the Randolph College men's soccer team over Methodist University 2-1 Wednesday in non-conference play.
Wolf's tally was his first of the season, and marked his third straight goal that was a game-winner. His last goal came in the 2011 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship game, as he headed in the game clincher in a 2-1 victory over Lynchburg College. Wolf struck as junior Nick Cornell (Front Royal, VA/Warren Co.) lofted the second of two straight corners, and Wolf put it away to give the WildCats their first win of the season.
Earlier in the game, Methodist (2-1) got on the board first as Anders Petersen scored with help from Nahom Hargwoin 25:13 into the match. Less than five minutes later, the WildCats would knot the game at one thanks to a score from Celestin Kabamba (Woodbridge, VA/C.D. Hylton).
The WildCats were kept in the game by sophomore CJ Stevens (Mechanicsville, VA/Lee-Davis), who made a total of 10 saves on the afternoon, with six coming in the second half and overtime. Randolph won the corner battle 7-5, but was outshot 21-14 on the afternoon. The 2-1 winning tally was the seventh game in the last eight wins for Randolph with that same score.
Kabamba led the WildCats with four shots, three coming on frame, while Jacob Lusczek (Fredericksburg, VA/Chancellor) and Corey Sindle (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) each had a pair of shots in the game. Eric McGinnis had a game-high seven shots for MU, and Pat Hamel made five saves in net for the Monarchs.
The WildCats will open their home schedule on Friday evening at 7 p.m. in WildCat Stadium with a contest against the Kingsmen of Cal Lutheran University in non-conference action.
