Corner Kick Goal Pushes Randolph Men's Soccer Past Eastern Mennonite 2-1

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, VA – Junior back Will Wolf (Goldsboro, NC/Cardinal Gibbons) scored his second game-winner of the season on a header Saturday, lifting the Randolph College men's soccer team to a 2-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory Saturday on Family Weekend from WildCat Stadium.

The winning goal for the WildCats (4-3-2/2-1-1 ODAC) came with just under 18 minutes to play, as Wolf headed in a perfectly placed header from Jacob Lusczek (Fredericksburg, VA/Chancellor). The header glanced off the crossbar and in, giving Wolf his second goal of the season and also marking his fourth straight goal that gave the WildCats a win.

Randolph dominated play in the beginning of the contest, but couldn't break through until the 23rd minute. The WildCats lifted the lid on the scoring though, as junior Corey Sindle (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) took a free kick from just outside the box. Sindle curled the attempt through the four-man wall and EMU (6-5-1/3-1 ODAC) keeper Andrew Yoder had no chance to make the save. The tally was Sindle's team-best fifth goal of the year.

After halftime, EMU used its counter attack well but couldn't break through the strong defense of Randolph. The hosts barely missed a chance to make the game 2-0 55:22 in the contest, as a Jacob Hood (New Market, MD/Linganore) attempt just missed high.

EMU would even the score 10 minutes later, countering off of a turnover. The Royals sent a ball into the box that was kicked away by a charging CJ Stevens (Mechanicsville, VA/Lee-Davis), but the rebound went right to the Royals' Carl Becker, who lined a shot into the empty net for the equalizer. Luckily for Randolph, Wolf's heroics would come five minutes later to give them the victory.

Randolph outshot its guests 13-9 on the game, but held a whopping 12-0 edge on corner kicks. The game was relatively clean, with only 18 fouls being called with no cards being handed out. Randolph did struggle to stay onsides at times, being whistled for eight on the afternoon. Stevens and Yoder each made four saves in net for their respective sides.

The WildCats will now head out on the road Wednesday to take on the Tigers of Hampden-Sydney College. Kick-off with the Tigers is set for 4 p.m.
