Grant Collier Scores First Two Collegiate Goals in 5-2 Win Over Emory & Henry

Box Score

EMORY, VA – Randolph College first-year Grant Collier (Chesapeake, VA/Hickory) netted his first two collegiate goals, including the game winner, as the WildCat men's soccer team earned its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory with a 5-2 win over Emory & Henry College Saturday evening.

The WildCats (3-3-1/1-1-0 ODAC) pinned the Wasps deep for much of the first half, as Randolph outshot its host 15-2 in the first stanza. Randolph got its first goal of the game at the 12:04 mark of the contest, as defender John Adams (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) headed in a perfect cross from junior Nick Cornell (Front Royal, VA/Warren Co.).

Randolph had another great chance four minutes later on a corner, but Cornell's header clanged off the post and out of harm for the Wasps. The WildCats would double their lead in the 27th minute after a foul in the box awarded the visitors a penalty kick. Senior Joe Skaja (Yorktown, VA/Grafton) took the penalty, and after it was stopped by Justin Spencer, Skaja knocked in the rebound for the 2-0 lead.

E&H would get on the board at the 32:47 marker of the contest, as Seth Phillips headed in a cross from Tory Schneider to cut the WildCat lead in half. After intermission, Randolph's quick strike attack came to the fore front. Collier scored his first goal of his career at 53:52 on a loose ball after a shot from Corey Sindle (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester).

Sindle would again set up Collier only 33 seconds later, as a cross from the junior All-American found the foot of the first-year, and he drilled it home from 10 years away for the 4-1 edge. For Collier, he became the first first-year player with a multiple goal game since Sindle and Jacob Hood (New Market, MD/Linganore) each accomplished the feat in a win over Ferrum September 8, 2010.

With the score 4-1, Randolph got its final goal of the contest from junior Tyler Gilchrist (Bedford, VA/Liberty), as he headed in a cross from fellow junior John Vecchietti (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson). For Gilchrist, it was his first goal since he scored in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA playoffs a season ago. Emory & Henry ended the game's scoring with a Konner Dozark goal.

Randolph outshot its host Saturday 22-10, earning six corner kicks to only two for the Wasps. Sophomore CJ Stevens (Mechanicsville, VA/Lee-Davis) made four saves in net for the WildCats to earn the win, and Spencer finished with five stops for Emory & Henry.

The WildCats will now return home for a rematch of the 2011 ODAC Championship, as crosstown rival Lynchburg College comes to WildCat Stadium Wednesday, September 26 at 7 p.m.
