Second Half Rally Spurs Bridgewater College to 3-2 Victory over Randolph Men Saturday

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, VA – The Eagles of Bridgewater College scored two goals in a 33-second span to tie and take the lead in earning a 3-2 victory over the Randolph College men's soccer team in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener for both teams Saturday afternoon.

The two goals came in the 77th minute of the contest, on two shots in succession. Daniel Visone netted a goal off an indirect kick with help from Kevin Gorman to tie the game at two. On the next possession for the Eagles (5-1/1-0 ODAC), Ricky Capuano dribbled through the defense and scored at 77:16 to give the Eagles the eventual game-winner.

Randolph (2-3-1/0-1-0 ODAC) had earned the lead just 6:47 into the contest, as junior Jacob Hood (New Market, MD/Linganore) scored his third goal of the season on a left-footed blast from 30 yards away. Minutes later, the WildCats were awarded a penalty kick, but Corey Sindle (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) had his attempt saved.

Sindle would make up for it in the 26th minute, as he banged home a direct free kick from 20 yards away to give the WildCats a 2-0 lead. Bridgewater gave itself some momentum right before the end of the half, as Derek Newsome scored off a free kick from distance with just 29 seconds left in the half.

After the break, the Eagles came out and pressured Randolph to the tune of an 11-6 shot edge in the second stanza but the WildCats still had a pair of great opportunities. In the 60th minute, Sindle drilled the cross bar and the ball bounced out and was cleared, and in the 71st minute junior Jacob Lusczek (Fredericksburg, VA/Chancellor) also nailed the bar.

After the two BC goals, the WildCats were unable to string much together, posting only a corner kick over the last 10 minutes of the game. Junior Carter Smith (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley) made five saves in net for Randolph. Both teams were awarded three corners apiece, and the foul total finished 15-13 in favor of the WildCats.

The WildCats will now get a week off before traveling to Emory, VA next Saturday for a matchup with Emory & Henry College at 7 p.m. in ODAC action.
