Box Score GREENSBORO, NC – The Randolph College women's lacrosse team traveled south for the 2012 season finale against Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foe Guilford College. Randolph fought through the first half, but the Quakers pulled away for the 21-9 league win.
Despite the loss, the women's lacrosse team at Randolph College posted team season highs in pretty much every single category, including goals, assists, and most importantly wins. Randolph earned four victories this season, including two league wins, the first two in program history. Sophomore Danielle Haney (Norwood, PA/Interboro) scored twice Saturday, setting a new program record with 44 goals this season.
The contest started out all Guilford (10-6/7-2 ODAC), as the hosts opened up a 5-1 lead after the first 8:30 of the game. The two teams exchanged three goals apiece over the next 10 minutes, but Guilford scored twice to make the score 9-4. Sophomore Ashley Edwards (Sumerduck, VA/Liberty-Bealeton) notched back-to-back goals to pull the WildCats within three at 9-6.
Guilford posted four of the game's next five tallies to take a 13-7 lead into the halftime intermission. The Quakers opened the second half on a 5-0 run which was finally stopped by a goal from WildCat first-year Taylor Klevenz (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill) . Randolph wouldn't get any closer though, falling by 12.
Edwards paced the WildCats (4-11/2-7 ODAC) with four goals, also picking up six ground balls. Klevenz had a team-high five points on three goals and two assists, while Haney finished with two goals and an assist. Klevenz added two ground balls, and fellow first-year Samantha Fagone (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) made 13 saves and picked up four ground balls.
E'Leyna Garcia and Lily Colley each scored six times for the Quakers, and Summer Frazier added four goals and an assist. Colley posted four assists for Guilford, which outshot the WildCats 46-21 and earned 24 draw controls to just the seven of Randolph.
With the WildCats due to return all 15 players next season, the future certainly looks bright for the young Randolph women's lacrosse team.
