WildCat Women's Tennis Comes Up Short at UVA-Wise Sunday Afternoon

WISE, VA — The Randolph College women's tennis team dropped all three doubles matches and couldn't make up the ground as the WildCats fell to UVA-Wise 5-1 in non-conference tennis action. The match was stopped after six matches due to rain that forced the cancellation of the final three flights.

In doubles play, Randolph was in both the No. 1 and No. 2 singles, as Anna Culpepper (Midlothian, VA/Midlothian) and Janie Campbell (Fredericksburg, VA/James Monroe) came up short with a score of 8-4. Randolph's No. 2 pairing of Patricia Verdezoto (Cuenza, Azuay, Ecuador/Bilingue Interamericano) and Kaitlin Kolster (Powhatan, VA/Powhatan) also just missed earning a point, falling 8-6.

In singles play, Verdezoto earned another win at No. 1 singles to push her record to 9-2 for the WildCats. Verdezoto has won her last two matches and five of her last six at the top position. Unfortunately, that was the only point that the WildCats would secure, falling at No. 2 and No. 3 singles before rain forced slashed No. 4-No. 6 singles.

Randolph (5-6) is back in action Thursday afternoon at home as the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College come to Lynchburg for a 4 p.m. league match.
