Box Score

LYNCHBURG, VA – Hosting Greensboro College scored the game's first six goals en route to knocking off the Randolph College men's lacrosse team 12-3 in non-conference action from Pride Field Saturday afternoon.

Greensboro (2-2) opened the scoring just 1:58 into play in the first quarter, as Thomas Brooks netted the first of his two goals on the day. Scott Showalter would score the next goal for the Pride, assisting on two later tallies in the first stanza as GC led 6-0 after the first 15 minutes of the game.

The WildCats (1-3) got on the board with 2:34 left in the second quarter, with Josh Borgelt (Greenville, SC/Mouldin) scoring with help from Jon O'Hara (Yorktown, VA/Grafton) . Randolph's defense clamped down in the second stanza, allowing no goals by the Pride, as senior keeper Kevin McCracken (Annandale, VA/Annandale) made three saves in the period.

After the break, Brooks and Showalter scored back-to-back goals to make the game 8-1. Randolph would answer right back with consecutive goals, as Bobby Crosby (Bethel, CT/Bethel) scored with 3:33 left in the third period followed by first-year Nick Valentine's (Richmond, VA/Benedictine ) first collegiate score with less than a minute to go in the third.

Unfortunately, Greensboro opened the game back out with four fourth quarter goals, cruising to the nine-goal victory. McCracken finished with 16 saves for the WildCats, while Ryan Blackwell (Brambleton, VA/Briar Woods) had another strong game with four caused turnovers and five ground balls. Sophomore Justin Baker (New Orleans, LA/Jesuit) tied his career high with three forced giveaways for the WildCats.

Randolph struggled again with the extra man, finished the game 1-7 in man-up opportunities. The WildCats were outshot 43-21 on the contest, and won only three of the 18 face-offs taken. Randolph also lost the ground ball battle, picking up 24 as opposed to the 50 from Greensboro.

Alex Vanderhoff netted a hat trick for the Pride, while Showalter had four points with two goals and two assists. Jaeger Carlyle had two goals for Greensboro, and face-off man Skip Jakupi won 12 of 13 face-offs. Mitchell Kanowitz got the win in net for Greensboro, making five saves.

Randolph will get the week off before entertaining Mitchell College Saturday, March 10 at 1:30 p.m. in WildCat Stadium.
