Box Score ROCKY MOUNT, NC – The Randolph College women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first half and cruised to a 19-4 non-conference victory over North Carolina Wesleyan College in play from Rocky Mount Sunday afternoon.
The Randolph women's squad set the young program's record for wins in a season with two, while also scoring a school-record 19 goals. The WildCats (2-5) wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as junior Danielle Haney (Norwood, PA/Interboro ) scored an unassisted goal 30 seconds in. Randolph scored seven goals in the first 10 minutes of the game, four of the free position variety.
Sophomore Samie Maggard (Baltimore, MD/Patapsco) became the first of four WildCats to net a hat trick Sunday as she scored her third goal of the game at 14:46. Maggard netted another goal with a extra man less than a minute later, and Taylor Klevenz (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill) and Haney followed to finish the 13-0 run for Randolph.
Middie Nushaa Kaz (Raleigh, NC/Ravenscroft) netted the final goal of the half for the WildCats to send the game into intermission with Randolph leading 14-1. The WildCats would take their pedal off the gas in the second half, coasting to the 15-goal win. The margin of victory was the largest in lacrosse history at Randolph.
Haney and Ashley Edwards (Sumerduck, VA/Liberty-Bealteton) both posted four goals and three assists apiece, and Maggard totaled a team-best five goals on only six shots. Klevenz scored on all four of her shots on goal, chalking up a game-high 11 draw controls. Randolph outshot the Battling Bishops (0-7) 28-9 on the game, and scored on five of the six free position attempts.
Kaz chalked up two goals and an assist for Randolph, also corralling three ground balls and two caused turnovers for the North Carolina native. Jess Andersen (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) had three ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers, as all but one WildCat picked up at least one ground ball.
Julia Smith scored three goals for North Carolina Wesleyan, and keeper Casey Burd made six saves in the loss.
The WildCats are back in action Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. as they entertain Washington & Lee University in WildCat Stadium.
