WildCat Women Earn Hard Fought 5-3 Victory over Emory & Henry Saturday

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College women's tennis team posted a huge 5-3 victory in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play over Emory & Henry College Saturday afternoon in play from The Sports Racket in Lynchburg, VA. The match was moved indoors because of wet courts on campus.

The WildCats (5-4/2-3 ODAC) picked up three wins in singles, as No. 2 Anna Culpepper (Midlothian, VA/Midlothian)earned a victory in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Senior Janie Campbell (Fredericksburg, VA/James Monroe) also dispatched of her opponent at No. 3 singles with scores of two and three, while first-year Kaitlin Kolster (Powhatan, VA/Powhatan) picked up another win at No. 4 singles to tie the match.

Going into doubles, Randolph needed to pick up two of the three pairs points to capture the win. Since the match was being played to completion, the WildCats earned the win after No. 1 doubles and No. 2 doubles picked up the two points needed for the match triumph. Culpepper and Campbell earned their second doubles win with an 8-5 victory, while Kolster and Patricia Verdezoto (Cuenza, Azuay, Ecuador)clinched the match for Randolph with an 8-5 win at No. 2.

The win for Randolph was its second league win of the year, and catapulted the WildCats into the top eight which qualify for the league tournament in late April. Randolph will get a few days off before heading to Bridgewater College Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. for another league match.
