LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College women's tennis team battled but couldn't overcome a potent Roanoke College squad as the WildCats fell 8-1 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action from the Randolph Tennis Courts.
Doubles play was all Roanoke, as the Maroons earned all three pairs points, though Brooke Camper (Smithfield, VA/Smithfield) and Danielle Lewis (Kingston, Jamaica/Immaculate Conception) kept things close at No. 3 doubles before falling 8-4.
In singles, Randolph dropped five of the six flights, but was hindered as normal No. 3Janie Campbell (Fredericksburg, VA/James Monroe) was forced to miss the match due to class commitments. The WildCats did get another victory from standout first-year Patricia Verdezoto (Cuenza, Azuay, Ecuador/Bilingue Interamericano) earned her fourth straight victory at No. 1 singles, winning 7-6 (9-7), 7-5. The win gave her a 7-1 singles record on the season.
The WildCats will look to earn another ODAC win this Saturday as the Wasps of Emory & Henry College come to town at 1 p.m.
