Randolph Women's Tennis Drops First Contest of the Year at Washington & Lee

LEXINGTON, VA – The Randolph College women's tennis team traveled to Lexington, VA Thursday to take on nationally ranked Washington & Lee University and couldn't get much going as the Generals earned a 9-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win.

The doubles were all Washington & Lee, as Randolph dropped all 18 games played between the two teams. Randolph (3-1/1-1 ODAC) took to singles looking to get back into the match, but W&L's depth proved to be too much as WLU earned the victory.

First-year Anna Culpepper (Midlothian, VA/Midlothian) earned a game win at No. 2 singles for the WildCats, while fellow first-year and recent addition to the teamDanielle Lewis (Kingston, Jamaica/Immaculate Conception) also took a game at No. 5 singles.

"Though the score doesn't show it, I thought we played better than last year against them (W&L)," said head coach Jamie Megginson. "We took a lot of games to deuce, and I reminded them that 'If you got to deuce, you can just as easily have won the game' so we're not too far off. They're (Washington & Lee) a great team though."

Randolph is back in action tomorrow afternoon at home against Southern Virginia University at 3 p.m.
