WildCat Men's Tennis Drops ODAC Match to Hampden-Sydney

LYNCHBURG, VA – The WildCat men's tennis team was in all of the matches early on but couldn't get a break when it mattered as Randolph dropped an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match to Hampden-Sydney College 9-0 Thursday.

In doubles player, first-yearsDaniil Lyalko (Riesterstown, MD/Park School of Baltimore) and Mitch Franko (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe) were in the match at No. 1 pairs, but the Tigers were too much down the stretch, earning an 8-4 win. At No. 2 doubles, Randolph went to deuce four times in its match, but lost three of the four games in falling 8-1.

In singles action, Randolph's (3-3/1-1 ODAC) best chance to get a victory was at No. 4 singles, as Shaun Chopp (Williamsburg, VA/Hampton Roads Academy) took the match to a first-set tiebreak. Up 6-4, he couldn't get that last point to earn the set and fell 6-3 in the second set.

First-year Zach Dales (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque) forced his opponent to have to go to seven in the first set, but couldn't maintain his play in falling in straight sets at No. 5 singles.

The WildCats are off until after spring break, when they will take on Shenandoah University, Tuesday, March 13 at 4 p.m. on the Randolph Tennis Courts.
