Box Score LYNCHBURG, VA — Ferrum College netted four goals in the decisive third quarter as the Randolph College men's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference battle with the Panthers 7-1 in action from WildCat Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Ferrum (1-2) got on the board with 2:12 left in the first quarter, as Dylan Burdick fed Andrew Senft for a 1-0 lead. Senior keeper Kevin McCracken (Annandale, VA/Annandale) was the story for the WildCats, as he finished with seven first half saves to keep the game tight. Ferrum pole Thomas George doubled the lead in the second quarter, as he fit a shot through the legs of McCracken for the goal.
McCracken would continue to dazzle throughout the game though, holding Ferrum without a goal for the rest of the half, with FC taking a 2-0 lead into halftime. The third quarter hurt Randolph (1-2) though, in particular the first five minutes of the period.
Senft opened the scoring 1:15 into the half unassisted and Kyle Downey followed with an unassisted tally a minute later to put Ferrum up 4-0. Senft netted another on an acrobatic goal to make the score 5-0 to finish the stretch. Burdick scored the sixth goal for the Panthers with 4:01 left in the third quarter.
Randolph got on the board in the fourth, as junior Stephen Allman (Goodview, VA/Roanoke Catholic) fed sophomore Colton Hunt (Chula Vista, VA/Otay Ranch) for a man-up goal. Senft would put a bow on the game with his fourth of the day to finish the scoring.
McCracken finished with 22 saves on the day, making seven in the third and five in the fourth quarter. Sophomore John Grundy (Gainesville, VA/Battlefield) was four-of-six on face-offs Saturday, and sophomore defender Ryan Pearson (Asbury, NJ/North Hunterdon) picked up nine ground balls and cause two turnovers.
Allman had six ground balls as well for the WildCats, which lost the turnover battle 36-22. Kyle Post had nine ground balls and five caused turnovers for the Panthers, while goalkeeper Damian Pulos made five stops in the victory.
Randolph is back in action next Saturday afternoon with a road contest at Greensboro College at 2 p.m.
