Box Score LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College men's soccer team scored four goals Saturday evening against Shenandoah University, earning an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win over the Hornets 4-0 in action from WildCat Stadium on Homecoming.
The four goals were the second-most in a game this season, eclipsed only by the five-goal output earlier in the year at Emory & Henry College. With the win, the WildCats currently sit in sixth place in the ODAC standings, needing a victory Tuesday with Randolph-Macon College to assure themselves a spot in the ODAC Tournament, which starts Saturday, October 27.
Randolph (7-5-3/5-3-2 ODAC) dominated possession in the first half, and the statistics backed that fact up. The WildCats fired 13 shots in the opening period, but the Hornet defense was up to the task for much of the first half. Randolph finally lifted the scoring lid at the 38:53 mark of the first half, as junior defender Nick Reemtsen (Richmond, VA/James River) netted his first career goal on a free kick just outside the box.
After intermission, Randolph again had the ball in the SU attacking zone for much of the half. Randolph doubled its lead at 51:01 as John Adams (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) crossed a ball to Jacob Hood (New Market, VA/Linganore), who ripped a shot home for his four goal of the year. 11 minutes later, Randolph's all-time goal scoring leader Corey Sindle (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) made a few moves and slotted a lovely left-footed blast off the right post and in for a 3-0 advantage.
In the waning moments of the game, Randolph junior Celestin Kabamba (Woodbridge, VA/C.D. Hylton) capped what was one of his best games of the year with a sparkling effort, beating a pair of defenders before rocketing a shot off the post and into the net for the final 4-0 count.
Randolph outshot its visitors Saturday 26-6, earning a 7-2 corner kick edge. Senior Ryan Woloshin (Yorktown, VA/Grafton) and junior Carter Smith (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley) split the game, as each made a pair of saves for the combined clean sheet. James Dutcher made seven stops in net for the Hornets, who dropped to 3-12-2 on the season.
The WildCats will be back in action this Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in WildCat Stadium against Randolph-Macon in the ODAC finale for both teams in a game with massive tournament implications.
